Orangeries

Bespoke Orangeries

Bringing style and elegance with additional light and airy living space, Orangeries are becoming increasingly popular as an alternative to a Conservatory. Orangeries date back to the 17th century, when they could be found in the grounds of exclusive residences, as the name dictates, they were originally used to house citrus trees during the colder months, however this expanded to include delicate shrubs and exotic plants.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, an orangery became a sign of wealth and prestige, not just a greenhouse. They began to be adorned with fountains and entertainment areas that could be used during inclement weather.

Leaping forward to the present, Orangeries provide an elegant, light an airy additional space to your home and are constructed to be energy efficient with well insulated roofs, double glazing and heating. They can still be a room to entertain, or simply relax and enjoy the benefits of a naturally light and airy, yet warm space.

ORANGERIES - CONSERVATORIES. Whats the difference?

The most common question we get asked is ‘What is the difference between an Orangery and a Conservatory?’ Simply put, its predominantly the roof structure that is different. Whereas a conservatory roof is fully glazed, Orangeries have a central glazed ‘lantern’ set into a flat roof, the result is a structure that feels more like an extension but with a beautiful light feel.

An Orangery also typically has more wall space than a Conservatory, which is useful for placing furniture and hanging pictures and photos, all of which can really define the space as your own, orangeries feel more like an extension to your home than a typical conservatory.

Orangeries are flexible spaces that can be used as kitchens, dining rooms, lounges or family rooms, the choices and options are almost limitless.
